Cancer research is making progress – more and more people are surviving the disease. Intensive research is taking place in Sweden and throughout the world. Surveys are being made to identify people with a family history of colon cancer; epigenetic causes of acute leukemia and other forms of cancer are being studied. Step by step we are acquiring knowledge leading to new and better therapies and drugs.
But why are some drugs more or less effective on different patients? How can treatments be individually tailored? New research findings upend existing theories and cause uproar – like Martin Bergös’ discovery that antioxidants do not inhibit the growth of cancer; on the contrary – they cause it to spread more quickly.
You will find out more about this and many other things in this film about cancer research at Karolinska Institutet, Umeå University, Uppsala University and the University of Gothenburg.
