The Foundation would like to clarify that Paolo Macchiarini has not - and have never had - a grant from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, KAW. Macchiarini has on three different occasions applied for project grants from the Foundation, but not received funding.
The reason that the Foundation is acknowledged in some publications is that some of the co-authors used the technology platforms at the Wallenberg Institute for Regenerative Medicine (WIRM) at Karolinska Institutet. Access to Foundation-supported technology platforms is controlled by the host university.
