Wallenberg Academy Fellow Hanna Isaksson, at Lund University, wants to find out how the tendons of the body are affected by different loads. She looks at both damaged and undamaged tendons, the focus is on the Achilles heel. The Achilles heel is the body's largest tendon and attaches the calf muscle to the heel. Achilles tendon ruptures are becoming more and more common - as we engage in sports more and more - and into older ages. Ruptured tendons are difficult to heal.
Hanna Isaksson studies the collagen in detail, the material the tendons consist of, and how it heals under different loads.
